The second tallest building is the Shanghai Tower in Shanghai, which is still under construction and is expected to be 632-metre tall with 121 floors. NRIs must be part of India’s development: Modi

The Indian diaspora must be a part of the country’s development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Friday, a day after ending a visit to Myanmar, Australia and Fiji. “We want to create an environment where our diaspora also feel that they can contribute towards India’s development journey,” he said in a blog. “That is also the reason I urged NRIs to keep sharing their views and thoughts (with the Indian government),” he added. “On a personal note, the affection (I got) from the Indian community was touching,” Modi said. “Be it in Myanmar, Australia and Fiji, I will not be able to describe their warmth in words. “I could see that they were proud of India and the changes happening in India. I could see dreams and expectations in their eyes. As I said during the Indian community programme in Sydney, we are fully aware of the expectations and we…

India aims global promotion for Ayurveda

India government has launched a drive to promote the country’s ancient therapies as it seeks to cash in on the multi-billion dollar global market for holistic medicine. India claims to have natural remedies for everything from cancer to the common cold, but ministers say it has failed to capitalise on its traditions as the world has woken up to alternative medicine. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a teetotal vegetarian who practices yoga daily, has said he wants the world to make Ayurveda “a way of life” – and in doing so expand India’s share of the growing global market for holistic medicine. Earlier this month he appointed India’s first minister for Ayurveda, yoga, naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and homeopathy – known as the AAYUSH ministry – and has also called for an international yoga day. “Call it whatever – Ayurvedic medicines or herbal medicines or traditional medicines – the global market is…

The mission, designed to search for evidence of life on Mars, sparked mass celebrations which were especially sweet as India also became the only country to reach the planet on its first attempt. Buoyed by the success, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman K.S Radhakrishnan said the agency was forging ahead with plans to land an unnamed craft on the moon, along with a satellite to study the sun. “The aim is three years from now, an Indian lander and Indian rover will land…
