A separate apex body for sports will be set up under the Indian embassy shortly, Indian Ambassador to Qatar P Kumaran has said.
The Indian envoy was speaking at reception in Doha, organised by the apex bodies of the Indian community — Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), Indian Community Benevolent Forum (IBPN) and Indian Business Professionals Network (IBPN).
Bring together all sports-related associations
Addressing the representatives of different sociocultural organisations of the Indian community, Kumaran announced the setting up of a separate apex body for sports, “which brings together all sports-related associations in our community under a single platform. By doing this, we’ll also be able to engage more effectively with Qatari sports organisations and enhance our partnership in the run-up to FIFA World Cup 2022.”
The ambassador noted that India has close relations with Qatar, anchored in historical commercial ties and people-to-people contacts.
“You are a microcosm of India, reflective of its vibrant diversity and its talents, given the wide variety of your professional and job profiles and your involvement in virtually every sector of the Qatari economy,” Qatar Tribune quoted the Ambassador as having said.
The Indian envoy also urged the community to explore the investment opportunities in India and use initiatives like the digital platform to stay abreast of the new announcements, and to help the embassy serve the people better.
“The government has taken several new initiatives such as creating digital platforms like Madad and e-Migrate so that Indians in any corner of the world are able to register their grievances directly and seek swift redressal,” he added.
