As a special tribute to the finest of India’s dining and culture experiences, Mövenpick Hotel Doha is hosting a 10-day Indian Food Festival that will run until 29 April, 2017. The Cochin International Airport Ltd’s (CIAL) new international terminal (Terminal 3) is set to be fully operational from tomorrow 18th April 2017. Here are the salient features and photos of the world-class terminal. Double the capacity With the opening of the Rs 1,000-crore facility, the operational capacity of CIAL will be almost doubled. The new terminal will be able to handle 4,000 passengers at peak hours instead of the 2,000 passengers at the present international terminal. The new terminal will have a total of 80 immigration counters, which will significantly reduce long queues for international travellers. Currently, Terminal 1 facilitates 37 immigration counters. With the commissioning of T3’s phase one (south), the terminal will operate nine gates and 10 aerobridges. As of now, T1 facilitates five aerobridges. Visit visas to Qatar are normally issued for 30 days only and can be extended after arrival. A medical test is compulsory for extension of the visit visa. Aadhaar card not needed for NRIs, says India Govt

The Indian government has exempted Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from the requirement of quoting Aadhaar (Indian biometric ID card) number while filing income tax returns back home. Recently the Finance Act, 2017 had made it mandatory to enrol for Aadhaar to file tax returns in India or apply for a PAN (Permanent Account Number) or keep the existing PAN active effective July 1. However, the requirement to quote Aadhaar for filing income tax returns and for making an application for allotment of PAN shall not apply to non-residents [NRIs], according to the latest CBDT press release. Should NRIs pay income tax? Non Resident Indians are exempt from taxation for all income they receive from outside India as well as interest from NRE bank accounts. IndiGo to start Doha flights from May 5

Low-cost Indian airline IndiGo has announced the introduction of daily, non-stop flights to Doha from Delhi and Mumbai beginning May 5. The airline made the announcement through a statement on its website and social media accounts on Monday. According to information available on the IndiGo website, Delhi- Doha flight (6E-1701) will depart Delhi at 1.50 am and will arrive Doha at 3.30 am. Doha-Delhi flight (6E-1702) will depart at 1.30 pm and will arrive in Delhi at 8:00 pm. Mumbai- Doha flight (6E-1708) will depart Mumbai at 11.20 am and will arrive in Doha at 12.30 pm. NRI father dies in accident after saving his nine-year-old daughter

An NRI father was killed in a horror crash after pushing his nine-year-old daughter out of the way of an oncoming car and saving her life. Paul John, 47, passed away in UK’s Manchester hospital, two days after being hit by a Kia Picanto. Tragic incident Witnesses reported seeing Paul John desperately push his daughter Angela out of the way of the oncoming vehicle when they were walking in Wythenshawe, Manchester. Qatar Airways plans to launch fully-owned airline in India with 100 planes

Qatar Airways is planning to set up a short-haul airline in India with a fleet of 100 narrow-body planes, renewing a push to gain a bigger share of one of the world’s fastest-growing travel markets. “We will soon be making an application to that effect. And from there we will proceed,” Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker told a press conference in Berlin. Al Baker said he wanted to set up a full service Indian carrier to fly domestic routes with around 100 narrow-body planes, now that the country had opened up the airline industry to foreign investors. UAE’s drive towards a paperless healthcare system continues as Health Authority Abu Dhabi has begun issuing electronic birth certificates at private hospitals. Under the new system, Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children has been authorised to issue birth certificates for newborns. The launch of the service came after the signing of an agreement last week that enabled Danat Al Emarat Hospital to become the first private hospital in Abu Dhabi to issue electronic birth certificates without the need for visiting HAAD customer service centres.
