Over 307,000 students return to school on Wednesday

More than 307,000 students will return to school on Wednesday, after the Ministry of Education and Higher Education completed its preparation for the new academic year 2018-2019. The preparations involved ensuring the schools will take up the new number of students, that transportation is available, and that the food products offered in the school cafeterias are in line with regulations. The ministry also signed a total of 711 teachers, bringing the total in public schools to 13,440, compared to 13,591 in private schools. The ministry added a total of 5,065 seats, by opening new schools in preparation for the new academic year. It also assigned a total of 2,117 buses to different schools, each according to its location. The ministry also co-ordinated with the Traffic Department to ensure the safety of the buses, transportation, and schools in general. UAE stands with Kerala flood victims

A total of AED10 million has been collected by the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation through UAE-based Indian tycoons and businesses for Kerala flood victims, a few hours only after the Foundation had launched its relief campaign in response to the directives of UAE leaders to form a national emergency committee to provide assistance to the flood-striken Indian state. Qatar Airways offers free transport of aid materials to Kerala

Qatar Airways Cargo has announced its relief efforts to deliver urgent aid to Kerala following the devastating floods in the southern Indian state. The cargo carrier has expeditiously organised an operation to deliver relief goods to the flood-stricken districts via the airline’s passenger service from Doha to Trivandrum. Qatar Airways Chief Officer Cargo, Guillaume Halleux, said: “We have received earnest requests from the Indian community residing in Qatar seeking support to transport relief aid to Kerala, where many of their families and relatives are affected by the worst flood in a century. “Given the devastating situation, we have rapidly activated a humanitarian operation to offer free transportation of relief goods from Doha to Trivandrum on our daily passenger flight. Qatar Charity offers assistance for Kerala flood victims

The Qatar Charity, through its representative in India, has launched emergency relief for those affected by the huge floods in the Indian state of Kerala with a total value of half a million riyals for the first stage. This humanitarian interface coincides with the launch of a fund raising campaign targeting more than QAR 4 million to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of 60,000 people through food, medical and shelter assistance. Floods in the southern Indian state of Kerala have killed hundreds of people and displaced other thousands, causing major damage to homes and infrastructure. Qatar Charity urged philanthropists in Qatar to help people affected in Kerala, by providing food, medicine, medical assistance, restoring and rebuilding homes and reaching out for the victims as soon as possible. The chances of rain in the country are expected to improve on Saturday, the Qatar Met department has said, while also forecasting strong winds and high seas in some offshore areas on Friday. While parts of the country experienced scattered rain on Thursday, the weather office said in a report that partly cloudy skies are likely in the country on Saturday and there is again a possibility of scattered rain, which may be thundery at times, in most inshore and offshore areas – particularly during the evening. Meanwhile, Friday’s forecast says the wind speed may go up to 25 knots in some offshore areas at times, with the sea level rising to 7ft. Slight dust and some clouds are also likely.
