Following a huge turnout for its debut Disney on Ice performance last year, organizers are returning to Qatar to host “Disney On Ice presents Rockin’ Ever After” from Sept. 24 to 27, 2014 at the Qatar National Convention Center. Last year, the ice skating and acrobatics spectacle drew more than 40,000 spectators, with tickets selling out in the first week. More shows were added to accommodate the public. “Disney On Ice presents Rockin’ Ever After” had only toured the US, before starting its world tour in Dubai and arriving in Doha. The extravaganza will bring together all-time favorite Disney characters from stories, including Disney-Pixar’s Brave and Disney’s Tangled, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Property developers are expecting a 35 per cent surge in real estate enquiries from NRIs, with Bangalore turning out to be the hot favourite, says an Assocham survey. To tap the growing interest which comes at a time when the global economy is stabilising and India is showing strong signs of revival, real estate companies are pulling out all stops by conducting property shows, exhibitions and opening overseas representative offices. Bangalore is the most favourite property investment destination for NRIs, followed by Ahmedabad, Pune, Chennai, Goa, Delhi and Dehradun, it added.The enquiries are primarily coming from NRIs residing in UAE, the US, Singapore, Australia, the UK, Canada and South Africa. Katara – the Cultural Village Foundation has launched its unique entertainment addition, gondola trips with distinctive Venetian features. The gondola trips will be held from from 5pm-10pm daily. Each gondola can accommodate a maximum of six persons at a rate of QR300 per trip, lasting from 30 to 45 minutes. Children and minors will be allowed on the boat only if they are accompanied by adults. Tickets will be sold at Katara Gate 12. The gondola is a traditional, flat-bottomed Venetian rowing boat, well suited to the conditions of the Venetian lagoon. For centuries gondolas were the chief means of transportation and most common watercraft within Venice.

The world’s largest passenger aircraft was officially welcomed into the Qatar Airways fleet yesterday (18 Sep 2014), in the presence of a galaxy of dignitaries. The national carrier’s first A380 landed at Hamad International Airport around 5pm, following its first official flight from an Airbus facility in Hamburg. QA’s first A380 can accommodate a total of 517 passengers: 461 in Economy, 48 in Business and eight in First Class – with the widest seats in the industry. All its seats are equipped with the latest entertainment systems besides the stylish and comfortable interior. The newly launched aircraft will conduct training flights for the next 15 days, and the first plane will begin flying to London Heathrow on Oct. 10. This is the first of 10 the airline has on order. Hamad International Airport (HIA) has seen about 2.16mn passengers departing, transferring or arriving into Qatar in July. Qatar’s new gateway saw an 11.36% passenger increase through its doors in July 2014 compared to July 2013. Cargo numbers have also increased at HIA with an additional 12.76% traffic in July. All cargo operations are now operating out of the new airport where the facility is fully automated, creating a seamless experience for both the cargo agents and customers. Remittances to Kerala have continued to grow and have reached highest figures this year, a study titled Kerala Migration Survey (KMS)- 2014 has revealed. The study, sixth in its series, was released on 17 September 2014. During the 12-month period ending in March 1, 2014, remittances stood at Rs.72,680 crores, 46 percent higher than the remittances in 2011. It revealed that the total remittances that stood at Rs.13,652 crores in 1996, grew to Rs.18,465 crores in 2003 and in 2008 it touched Rs.43,288 crores. In 2011, the total remittances was Rs.49,695 crores. The study reveals that the per capita income in the state would be Rs.63,491 without taking in to account the remittances, but would be Rs.86,180 if remittances were taken into the calculation.
As much as 90 percent of Kerala’s 23.63 lakh (2.363 million) diaspora is in the various Middle East countries, says a study released on 17 September 2014. The Kerala Migration Survey (KMS)-2014 shows that the United Arab Emirates has attracted 38.7 percent of the Kerala emigrants and retains its first position while Saudi Arabia comes second with 25.2 percent. The total number of Kerala diaspora is estimated to be 23.63 lakh. These numbers indicate that emigration from Kerala has been increasing since 1998. Although the number of emigrants has increased between 2011 and 2014, emigrants per household have decreased during the period. Ten percent of the Kerala diaspora is outside the Gulf region, principally in the US and Britain. While the relative share of Kerala emigrants in Britain has increased, that in the US has gone down.
