If you are disappointed that some exchange houses in India are not accepting Qatari currency due to the ongoing crisis, here is some good news for you. Doha Bank has confirmed in a press release that all its branches in India are accepting Qatari Riyal currency notes. “Doha Bank is authorized to exchange Qatari Riyal currency notes against Indian Rupees (INR) at its Bank’s Branches in India for its customers and other Banks,” Dr. R. Seetharaman, Chief Executive Officer of Doha Bank said, “Doha Bank would like to assure its existing customers that they can exchange Qatari Riyal currency notes against Indian Rupees at its Branches in India. Doha Bank has also communicated to all the Banks in India that they can get in touch with the branch personnel to discuss the operational aspects of the exchange,” he added. Passengers suffer as Air India flight’s AC stops working

Air India passengers on a Delhi-bound flight from West Bengal’s Bagdogra were left in discomfort on Sunday as the air-conditioning system malfunctioned. The flight, AI-880, had 168 passengers and made a safe landing in Delhi. In a video footage, the passengers were seen to be huffing and puffing in the heat. India’s fruits, vegetables exports to Qatar rise by 15% in two weeks

India’s exports of fresh fruit and vegetables to Qatar have jumped by 15% within a two-week period because of an increase in demand, media reports said. India’s food exports to Qatar increased after Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain imposed an economic blockade on Qatar. According to a senior official of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (Apeda) many cargo airlines have delivered goods in large quantities to Qatar in the first two weeks of the crisis. Business Standard has quoted the official as saying that the exports of fruits and vegetables from India to Qatar is likely to rise further as Doha has started importing from India directly. Indian passports would now be in both Hindi and English, instead of just English, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj announced on Friday. Personal details in passports are now printed only in English and Swaraj said she had received several complaints about it “Passports should at least be bilingual. UAE residents on Thursday morning were overjoyed when the blocked video, voice call features on WhatsApp was enabled after a several months. Social media was abuzz with messages and tweets announcing the “good news”. Mobile phones did not stop ringing as elated residents took the opportunity to freely connect with their friends and family back home. However the joy was short-lived as UAE’s telecommunication authority once again restricted the use of WhatsApp’s voice and video-calling services by afternoon. India may operate additional flights to Doha during Eid holidays

To address the growing requirements of Indians in Qatar during the upcoming Eid holidays and beyond, a few additional flights may be operated to some of the Indian destinations. Indian Ambassador P Kumaran has already taken up the issue with the Indian Minister of Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathy Raju and positive responses are expected from the government, Gulf Times quoted the Ambassador as having said. “Indian airline companies may operate some additional flights during the Eid al-Fitr season but their destinations would only be known as and when the decision is made,” said Kumaran. There has been an unprecedented rush on the flights to the Indian sectors as four UAE-based carriers have temporarily stopped their operations to Qatar following the economic and travel blockade on Qatar. Sikh temple in Dubai organises Iftar party for Muslims

To demonstrate the spirit of tolerance and giving, a Sikh temple in Dubai gathered 120 Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and Christians from different nationalities for an Iftar meet-up. The temple, Gurunanak Darbar Gurudwara, hosted the residents of over 30 nationalities to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan and support the Muslim community in breaking their fast in an multicultural setting.
