Applications for Indian Passport through online only: Indian Embassy

All applications for a new Indian passport in Qatar will have to be filled online starting from September 15, the Indian Embassy in Qatar has said. Informing this, the embassy has issued a communique on its website that explains the steps involved in applying for a new passport. Qatar’s Emiri Diwan announces Eid Al-Adha holiday for public sector

On the occasion of Eid Al Adha, Qatar’s Emiri Diwan has announced the Eid holiday for ministries, government departments and public institutions. According to the announcement, Eid holiday for ministries and other government entities and public institutions will start on Thursday, August 31, 2017 (Dhul Hijja 9, 1438 H) and till Thursday, September 7, 2017 (Dhul Hijja 16, 1438 H). Employees will resume work on Sunday, September 10, 2017 (Dhul Hijja 19, 1438 H). As for Qatar Central Bank (QCB), the banks and financial institutions working under the supervision of QCB and Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA), the QCB governor will announce the start of the holiday. Qatar Emir sends message to Prime Minister of India

Qatar Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani sent Saturday a written message to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, pertaining to the bilateral relations and ways to develop them. The Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani handed the message during a meeting with the Indian Prime Minister today. Earlier Qatari Foreign Minister held talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi on Saturday. The Indian side thanked Qatar for contributing significantly to India’s energy security, being the largest supplier of LNG. Qatar Foreign Minister to arrive in India on two-day visit

Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani will arrive in the Indian capital of New Delhi on Friday evening, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced. During a two-day visit, he will call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hold talks with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj, leading Indian daily Hindustan Times reported, quoting the MEA. Qatar is an important trading partner for India in the Gulf region with bilateral trade in 2014-15 standing at USD 15.67 billion. It is also one of India’s largest suppliers of crude oil. Qatar Airways in interline partnership with India’s Vistara

Qatar Airways (QA) has entered into an interline partnership with growing and full-service Indian airline Vistara, as the national carrier marks more than 20 successful years of flights to India, it was announced. Qatar’s broadband ranked as the fastest in MENA region

Qatar has ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) and seventh worldwide in broadband connection speed, said Ooredoo, citing a report by Content Delivery Network (CDN) services, Akamai. Akamai’s ‘State of the Internet’ report, which analysed the first quarter results of global broadband speeds, said Qatar led the Mena region in average broadband connection speeds in Q1 2017, and had the largest yearly connection speed increases of some 64%. With a 108 Mbps average peak connection speed, Qatar is also ranked seventh worldwide in providing broadband speeds, beating countries in Europe and the US, according to the recent sampling of over 146 countries. First batch of Doha Metro trains arrive in Qatar

Qatar’s Hamad Port welcomed the first Doha Metro trains to Qatar after a sea journey that took 21 days from the Japanese Kobe Port. The batch includes four out of a total of 75 trains that will serve the Doha Metro project. The first day of Hijri month Dhul-Hijja 1438H will be on August 23, while the first day of Eid al-Adha this year will be on September 1, according to astronomical calculations by Qatar Calendar House (QCH). “According to accurate calculations the new crescent of Dhul- Hijja 1438H will born on 29 Dhul-Qa’da (August 21) at 9.31pm,” QCH director Dr Mohamed al-Ansari and astronomer expert Dr Beshir Marzouk said in a statement. Hundreds of Indians representing the largest expat community in Qatar gathered at ICC premises to pay salute to the nation on its 71st Independence Day. Ambassador P Kumaran led the Independence Day celebrations at the ICC by hoisting the Indian flag at a special ceremony attended by a large number of community members. Officials of the apex bodies under Indian embassy, prominent members of the Indian community as well as office bearers of several Indian organisations were present on the occasion. ICC president Milan Arun welcomed the gathering and general secretary Juttas Paul conducted the meeting. Students of Indian schools presented patriotic songs during the function.
