India Govt scholarships for NRI students

There are many schemes and programmes for NRIs initiated by the Central Government and various State Governments. Under the scheme, 100 PIO/NRI students are awarded scholarship of up to US$ 4,000 per annum for undergraduate courses in Engineering, Technology, Humanities, Liberal Arts, Commerce, Management, Journalism, Hotel Management, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and some other courses. Team ‘Happy New Year’ launches reality show

The team of Shahrukh Khan’s Diwali extravaganza Happy New Year has launched a dance reality show for Zee TV. The show, titled ‘Dil Se Naachein Indiawaale’ will go on air October 11 and has called for entries from dance enthusiasts across the country. Happy New Year director Farah Khan, along with the film’s actors – Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah -attended the press conference to launch the show. The leading lady Deepika Padukone could not make to the launch event. Dancers, who have been shortlisted after their Happy Dancing video have been selected after an initial round of auditions and will now get a chance to perform in front of the ‘Agents of Happiness’. Some of the participants from the show performed live at the event, offering a glimpse of what the show would offer.

Microsoft Corp announced its ‘Windows 10’ operating system replace the largely unpopular Windows 8, skipping a number to mark a leap toward unifying the way people work on tablets, phones and traditional computers. The next version of Microsoft’s flagship product, which still runs the vast majority of personal computers and is used by 1.5 billion customers worldwide, is aimed at recapturing the lucrative business market, which generally ignored the new-look Windows 8. Windows 10 will be “our greatest enterprise platform ever,” said Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s head of operating systems, at an event in San Francisco. Only 20 percent of organizations migrated to Windows 8, which was released two years ago, according to tech research firm Forrester. Modi launches ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign

Wielding the broom, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched the country’s biggest-ever cleanliness drive that is expected to cost over Rs 62,000 crore, asserting that the “Swachh Bharat” mission is “beyond politics” and inspired by patriotism. Debunking criticism that his government has been taking credit for every achievement, the Prime Minister acknowledged the efforts of all previous governments to make India clean. “All the governments in this country have made one or the other effort to do this work. Several political, social and cultural organizations have made efforts in this direction. I greet all those, who have worked,” Modi said in his 25-minute address at Rajpath, where he formally kicked off the five-year-long campaign that will cover 4,041 statutory towns. Call emergency services in seven languages

People will be able to call emergency number 999 round-the-clock during Eid Al Adha holidays in different languages, including Chinese, Hindi, Tagalog, Persian and French, apart from Arabic and English. Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported yesterday quoting the official in-charge of the central operation room (999) that they respond to an emergency call within 10 seconds. Lieutenant-Colonel Hassan Mohamed Al Kuwari said that those who are hearing impaired can also call the emergency number but only in Arabic and English. Meanwhile, banks will have five days of Eid Al Adha holidays beginning from October 5 until October 11, but they will in effect be closed for 9 days considering their weekly days off on Fridays and Saturdays. Steel bridge to ease traffic on E-Ring Road

In a step to alleviate traffic congestion on E-Ring Road, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced opening the temporary steel bridge, constructed over Mesaimeer Junction (known as Al Obaidli roundabout), completely to traffic on the evening of Thursday 2nd of October 2014. Opening of this temporary bridge, which has been constructed for the first time in Qatar, represents an interim solution to ease the congestion issues in the area, until the completion of development works of E-Ring Road. Road users can now benefit from reduced travel time and take advantage of a free flow route from Al Thumama roundabout towards Bu Hamour area without the need to travel through Mesaimeer Junction, which will significantly relieve traffic congestion in this area. Qatar declares one week govt holiday for Eid

The public sector in Qatar will be given a week off for Eid Al Adha 2014, the Emiri Diwan has announced. Taking into account that Saudi Arabia has declared Eid on Saturday, October 4, Qatar News Agency reports that the holiday will run from Sunday October 5 to Thursday October 9 Regular hours for ministries, authorities and other public government institutions will resume on Sunday, October 12.
