Travel without exit permit comes into force from today

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has started implementing the amendment of Article No. 7 concerning the cancellation of the travel (exit) permit notice of Law No. 21 of 2015 regarding the entry and exit of expatriates and their residence. Director of Airport Passports Department Col Mohammed Rashid Al Mazroui confirmed that the Ministry of Interior, in the framework of facilitating procedures and travel through the country’s ports, started implementing Article No. 7 regarding the cancellation of the travel (exit) permit notice from early morning today (Sunday). He said that these measures are part of the recent amendments to Law No. 21 of 2015, stipulating that the expatriates working under labour law shall have the right to temporarily exit or depart the country permanently during the validity of the employment contract, and that the employer has the right to apply in advance to the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs…

Qatar World Cup 2022 will be carbon-free: Minister

Qatar’s football World Cup 2022 will be a “carbon-neutral” tournament with zero harmful emissions, Environment Minister told a sustainability conference on Wednesday. Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi said strict standards in design and construction would offset the tournament’s carbon footprint, despite the huge number of infrastructure projects underway in the Gulf emirate. “The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy has been working on planning and organising a carbon-neutral 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament,” he said. Carbon neutrality is achieved by offsetting the amount of harmful carbon dioxide released to the atmosphere. Hydrocarbon-rich Qatar, which is spending $500 million a week on capital projects for the World Cup, is undergoing a huge transformation for football’s biggest tournament. Sushma Swaraj to visit Qatar and Kuwait during October 28-31

India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will be on a four-day visit to Qatar and Kuwait from Sunday. The ministry said in a statement that, on 28th and 29th October Mrs Swaraj will have engagements in Qatar while on 30th and 31st of October she will be in Kuwait. During her visit to Qatar, the External Affairs Minister will interact with her counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and also call on Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani. Qatar tops Arab world in Food Security Index

Qatar has claimed the top spot among the Arab countries and 22nd globally in the Global Food Security Index (GFSI) 2018, released by The Economist Intelligence Unit. Qatar has managed to accomplish this feat despite the blockade imposed by the siege countries on the country since June 5, last year. The Global Food Security Index considers the core issues of affordability, availability, and quality across a set of 113 countries. Singapore is ranked first in the 2018 GFSI ranking for the first time while Ireland is on the second place in the index. After maintaining the top spot between 2012 and 2016 and falling to second in 2017, the US has now dropped to third. Katara opens art exhibition to mark Mahatma Gandhi birth anniversary

Qatar’s new law on Exit Permits to come into effect on Oct 28

Qatar’s exit permit reform will come into force from October 28, the Joint Coordination Committee between the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour & Social Affairs said in a statement. The Ministry also urged the employers to register the name of employees who will require prior approval before leaving the country due to their nature of work. The joint committee “announced that the Law No. 13 of 2018 will be enforced by amending certain provisions of Law No. 21 of 2015 regarding the entry and exit of expatriates and their residency from October 28, 2018.” The percentage of such workers shall not exceed 5% of the total number of employees. Indian naval ship to arrive at Doha’s Hamad Port on Tuesday

The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Mumbai, a guided missile destroyer, is arriving at Hamad Port early Tuesday, on a three-day visit of Qatar. QP signs 3-year naphtha deal with Indian company

Qatar Petroleum has signed a three-year sale agreement to supply India’s Haldia Petrochemicals Limited (HPL) in the West Bengal state, with a total of 600,000 tonnes of light naphtha. The deal signed for and on behalf of Qatar Petroleum for the Sale of Petroleum Products Company (QPSPP), will start this year, QP said on Wednesday. IndiGo to start daily services to two more cities from Doha

IndiGo, which is India’s largest passenger airline in terms of market share, will start operating to two more destinations in India – Thiruvananthapuram and Ahmedabad from Doha in early October. The daily non-stop service between Doha and Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala state, will be from October 1.
