India adds Qatar to list of e-visa eligible countries

India has added Qatar to the list of countries eligible for e-visa facility, currently availed by passport holders of 167 countries/territories. This facility is in addition to the existing Visa services provided by the Embassy of India, Doha. e-Visas are issued on the basis of an online application and do not require the application to be submitted physically at the Embassy or a visa-sticker to be affixed on the passport by the Embassy. The approval for the visa, called the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), is sent to the applicant by email. The applicant should carry a copy of this ETA along with him/her at the time of travel. Applicants can track the status of their application online at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html. Qatar Airways offers free transport of aid materials to Kerala

Qatar Airways Cargo has announced its relief efforts to deliver urgent aid to Kerala following the devastating floods in the southern Indian state. The cargo carrier has expeditiously organised an operation to deliver relief goods to the flood-stricken districts via the airline’s passenger service from Doha to Trivandrum. Qatar Airways reroutes Kochi flights to Thiruvananthapuram

Qatar Airways has decided to reroute its flights – QR516 and QR517 between Doha and Kochi (Nedumbassery) to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport until August 25. The airlines has suspended all flights to Kochi airport until August 26. This is due to the closure of the international airport at Kerala’s commercial capital Kochi until August 26 due to heavy rains and floods in the south Indian state. PHCC announces working schedule for Eid holidays

The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has announced the working hours of its health centres during the Eid al-Adha holidays. Al Thumama, Abu Nakhla, Al Gharafa, Al Karaana, Umm Salal, Al Wajbah, Al Ghuwairya and Al Daayen Health Centres will remain closed during the holidays. Within Doha, Omar Bin Kattab, Al Rayan, Madinat Khalifa, Rawdat Al Khail, Abu Baker Al Sidiq, Leabaib, West Bay, Mesaimeer, Umm Ghuwailina, Muaither and the Airport health centres will be open from 7am to 2pm and from 4pm to 11pm. On the occasion of Eid Al Adha, the Amiri Diwan has announced the Eid holiday for ministries, government departments and public institutions. According to the announcement, Eid holiday for ministries and other government entities and public institutions will start on Sunday, August 19, 2018 (Dhul Hijja 8, 1439 H) and till Sunday, August 26, 2018 (Dhul Hijja 15, 1439 H). Employees will resume work on Monday, August 27, 2018 (Dhul Hijja 16, 1439 H). Rupee decline continues, May touch Rs 70 against USD

Indian rupee today edged higher to 68.34 against the US dollar, but is not very far from its all-time low of 68.87, recorded in November 2016. On Wednesday, the rupee had closed at an 18-month low 68.42 against the US dollar amid capital outflows and concerns over macro-economic conditions. A rising dollar and a surge in global crude prices have also weighed on the rupee. The rupee is down over 6 per cent against the US dollar so far this year. Forex advisory firm IFA Global says that the possibility of rupee heading towards 70 per dollar is increasing. There is a still room for further depreciation from current levels, it adds. Qatar Met predicts chances of rain on Saturday

The chances of rain in the country are expected to improve on Saturday, the Qatar Met department has said, while also forecasting strong winds and high seas in some offshore areas on Friday. While parts of the country experienced scattered rain on Thursday, the weather office said in a report that partly cloudy skies are likely in the country on Saturday and there is again a possibility of scattered rain, which may be thundery at times, in most inshore and offshore areas – particularly during the evening. Meanwhile, Friday’s forecast says the wind speed may go up to 25 knots in some offshore areas at times, with the sea level rising to 7ft. Slight dust and some clouds are also likely.
