For Indians based in UAE, becoming a legit driver will become easier now that they will be able to choose Indian languages for their driving test.
Come September, a total of 11 languages will be made to choose from while appearing for driving tests in the UAE. Of the 11 languages, four will be Indian- Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Bengali.
As of now, three languages- English, Urdu and Arabic are used for conducting tests. Besides the already existing languages and the four Indian languages, Chinese, Russian and Persian will also be a part of the test.
In a quote given to Gulf News, Arif Al Malek, the Director of Drivers Training and Qualifications at RTA said, “We will be having text on the screen as well as voice over in 11 languages, which the candidate can listen to through headphones. In case a person cannot read, a voice will read out the questions and then the candidate can choose the correct answer from multiple options available.”
He then added, “We already have lectures in some of these languages, but we will be upgrading our system soon to conduct the lectures in a more organized manner so that every candidate has a thorough knowledge of what it takes to drive on roads. For this, we will ensure candidates are taught in the language of their choice.”
Mandatory lectures and knowledge tests are held for driving aspirants. It is required for every candidate to pass the computer-based knowledge test along with the practical driving classes.
The computer-based test is of 30 minutes and includes text on screen or voice over. With the addition of new languages, it will now be easier for the foreign citizens residing in the country to attain a driving license. They will not have to adapt to the situations which could be uncomfortable and could result in failure to achieve a license to drive.
