How To Do Medical Test for Visit Visa Extension in Qatar (2024)

Doha Guides Team regularly reviews this article to ensure the content is up-to-date and accurate. The last editorial review and update were on 02 February 2024.

Family Visit visas to Qatar are normally issued for 30 days only and can be extended after arrival. A medical test is compulsory for the extension of a family visit visa.

This article explains how to do the medical test for both visit visa extensions as well as for a family residence visa in Qatar.

When to do the Medical Test for Visit Visa Extension in Qatar

Once the visitor enters Qatar, the visit visa sponsor will receive an SMS reminding them to complete the medical test if visa extension is required. However it may take up to three days to update the visitor’s entry in the system. So it is advisable to do the test after 3 days of entry.

The medical test can be done any time before the expiry of the visit visa. Considering that the test results may take up to 3 working days to be updated, it is advised to do it at least within the first three weeks of entry.

Qatar Medical Commission Location

The medical tests for a visit visa extension are done at the government-run Medical Commission Office in Doha, located near Woqod Petrol Station near Industrial Area (Abu Hamour). Here is the location map:

Qatar Medical Commission Timing

Normally, Medical Commission is open from 7 am to 12 Noon and 2 pm to 7 pm from Sunday to Thursday. Friday and Saturday are holidays.

Afternoon sessions during mid-week days are comparatively less crowded for families. Keep in mind that on busy days, they may stop issuing tokens 1-2 hours before closing.

Documents Required for Medical Test

The following are the documents required to do the medical test for a visit visa extension in Qatar:

  • Original passport of the visitor
  • Clear copy of visit visa with a cell phone number to call for emergency
  • Debit or credit card for payment of the fees

Fees for Medical Test

  • The fee for the medical test is QAR 100 per person.
  • A debit or credit card is required for payment. Cash payment is not allowed.
  • If you don’t have a debit credit card, there is a bank counter near the women’s entrance that can issue a temporary debit card for a small fee.

Entrances to Medical Commission

The Medical Commission Office has separate entrances for male and female visitors. Upon entering the main gate, turn right for the female entrance. For the male entrance, go straight and take the right after the main building.

Dress Code For Female Visitors: Women are required to wear ankle-length dresses or pants, and dresses below knee level are not permitted.

Men are not allowed to accompany female visitors, even if they are relatives. If the female visitor is someone who might need assistance, one female can enter along with the visitor.

The men’s section usually allows only the visitor to go inside (unless the visitor is old or physically challenged). So if you are giving your Debit/Credit card to the visitor make sure you give the card’s PIN code also.

Note that there are several entrances to Men’s section – one of them is for X-Ray and another is for employment visa medical tests. Check with the security at the entrance and make sure you are waiting at the right place.

Medical Test Procedure

The medical test for a visit visa extension in Qatar consists of screening for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. Permit applications are rejected if HIV tests are positive. The visitor will also receive a chest X-Ray for tuberculosis. Here is the detailed process:

  1. Upon entering, take a token number from the machine at the entrance (or someone will be there to issue tokens).
  2. Go to the registration counter when your token number is shown on the screen.
  3. Give the original passport and visa copy (with the contact number).
  4. After entering the details in the system, they will ask for payment. Pay QR 100 using a debit/credit card.
  5. They will give back the passport, visa copy as well as a printout with the MC number.
  6. Go to the area designated for the Blood Test (there are clear directional signs).
  7. The receptionist will check the printout and issue the bottle for a blood sample.
  8. Go to the nearby room for a blood drawing (the receptionist will guide you).
  9. After the blood test, go for a chest X-Ray which is in another area (follow the directional signs).
  10. Once the X-Ray is done, you can leave.

Sometimes X-Ray is done before the blood test. The staff will guide you depending on availability. In either case, you have to do both tests on the same day. There is another room for a physician’s check-up, which is not needed for a visit visa extension.

The total time required depends on how crowded the place is. On a lucky day, you may wrap up everything in 30 minutes. On another day it may even take 4-5 hours.

Medical Test Result

Usually, the medical test result is available within 24 hours. In some cases, it may delay up to 3 working days.

If the sponsor has activated Metrash2 on his phone, the result will be sent as an SMS. If Metrash2 is not activated, you can check on the Ministry of Public Health website. Here is the link to the website for the medical test result.

Medical Test for Children

For children on visit visa, a medical test is not required. Earlier you had to pay QR 100 as medical report fee for children (even without a medical test). As per the recent visitors, Medical Commission is not charging this fee anymore.

Visit Visa Extension Process

Once the medical test is passed, the sponsor can immediately extend the visa online or through Metrash2. Visa extensions can also be done by visiting the MoI service centre. The visa extension fee is QAR 200 per 30 days.

For first and second-degree relatives, the visa can be extended for up to 150 days after the initial 30 days (a total of 180 days).

When renewing through Metrash2, make sure you select the correct number of days. By default, the number of days shown is 150 which means you would end up paying for a five-month extension.

If you are renewing the same visa for a second time, a medical test is not required again.

  1. Hi
I have completed medical test for family visit visa requirements. The Medical Commission website mentions it as FIT but the results are not reflecting in Metrash for visa extension. What will be next stepslto get the medical test results updated in Metrash? The test was done on 25Feb so sufficient time has already passed.

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Ali, It shouldn’t take more than 24 hours to uppdate on Metrash. This seems like a technical issue. If you still can’t find it on Metrash, please contact Medical Commission.

  2. Hi,
My wife Recently did Medical test for Family visit visa extension, yesterday i got message “Medical test is OK”. Now, can i extension Visa for 30 days like i can extend monthly, monthly is it possible, total how many time we can extend ?
and what about insurance i already put insurance for this month for extension how i can make insurance before visa fees ?
    Please explain the process step-by-step.

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Ashok, You can do the extension on your Metrash. But you may only see the option to extend for 60 more days. Take 2 months of insurance first and then apply on Metrash.
If you go directly to any MOI Service Center they can do up to 5 more months (total 6 months). In that case, you will have to take insurance for 5 more months.

  3. Hi DG Team,
Is it possible to exent Personal visit visa for one month first and another one month after if required?

  4. Did medical exam on Tuesday. On Thursday we went back because we were told through SMS that Xray repeat is needed. But when we went last Thursday, the doctor said its all ok and no need for repeat. Today is Sunday but no result yet. And is the medical insurance needed also when extending the visa before they approve the medical exam?

  5. hi DG team, I visited Medical commission at 5.45pm on Monday(22nd Jan) to take the medical test for extending visit visa for my mother in law. it was less crowded and all process got finished in 1 hr. Evening time is less crowded on week days. But pls visit before 6pm. Thanks for the detailed steps mentioned in DG website in this regard. It was more helpful.

  6. Hi Doha Guide Team,
When a family visit visa is extended for 180 days after the medical, is it still possible for the visa holder to leave Qatar and return to Qatar within the 180 days? When the visa holder leaves the country, will the visa still be valid for the remaining days? If the visa is terminated once they have left Qatar, then what is the duration for applying for the next visa for the same person? Thanks in advance.

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Shajan John, A Family Visit Visa is a single entry visa, which means it becomes invalid once the visitor exits the country. There is an option to get Return Permit by paying QR 200. However, we are not sure if it is being issued nowadays (others have reported they couldn’t get it). So you can call 109 or visit any MOI Service Center to check if this option is available. Please confirm if this works before the person leaves the country.

  7. Hi Doha Guides Team,
It is important also to mention two critical points:
1- Metrash sends a message informing to do the medical within one week of entering the country, but when we went the following day after entry, they said not appearing in the system to come after 3 days- so this information should be given
2- Ladies are not allowed to wear even below knee level dresses, they should wear ankle length dress or pants.

Both above points were not known prior, we wasted our time and money travelling from Alkhor to Medical commission in Mesaimeer just to be turned back because the above reason no. 1. (by the way the health center in Alkhor did not allow for the Medical, even the helpline said the only place to do the Medical is in Mesaimeer)

    Thank you

Thank you Dulan for sharing your experience. These are helpful tips. We have updated the articles with these information.

  8. Hello, if we arrived to medical commission at 6 PM. They will allow my wife to go inside for checkup or not? What is the timing to enter inside?

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Darsan, Try to go earlier than that (4 pm is usually allowed). They may not allow entry at 6 pm because they have limited tokens for a day.

  9. hi DG,
a question. my spouse and a less then 2 year old child is on a family visit visa. am planing to extend it. my question is, is it possible to re entry on same visa? or is there any options to re enter on same visa incase exited the country!?

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Mohamed, Earlier there was an option to apply for a return permit by paying QR 200. However, we hear that nowadays it is not being issued. Please check with any MOI Service Center if this is possible.

  10. Hi doha guide,

My husband applied Rp for me and my kids all my kids got qid already but for me i got some problem with medical they told me to go to communicable disease center and i went again xray , sputum and blood test but the results will take 4 week which i cannot wait due to my kids school. On jan 21st is my next appointment to cdc but i am not be able to attend it. I am going to india means i am exiting Qatar without finishing my medical, my RP will get cancelled thats for sure, incase i want to come back again i am allowed? Or i will be block listed? Thank you for ur answer in advance .

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Sumayah, Your RP visa is a single entry visa (until the QID process is completed). If you leave without completing the QID process, your husband has to apply for an RP visa again. Usually, he will be allowed to apply again, but you can double-check with MOI or call 109.

  11. Hi Dohaguides…
After completing the stay of 180 days of wife and children, can I renew visit visa? Is it possible to get another visit soon?

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Najeeba, Unfortunately, you need to stay out of Qatar for 180 days before you can apply for another visit visa.

  12. Hi Doha Guides Team,
Thank you for the detailed information.

I just wanted to clarify one thing.
My wife and two daughters (aged 5 and 3) are on family visit visas; now for an extension, my wife will go for a medical checkup, and I can apply for her visa extension from my Metrash2 app.
My question is, if my daughters will not do medical tests, do they still need to visit the medical commission, or can I simply apply for their visa extension from my Metrash2 app?

    1. Hi Muhandis, Usually children below 15 do not have to visit the Medical Commission. You can try applying extension from your Metrash app. If that doesn’t work, take their passport and visa copy when the mother visits the Medical Commission. They can update the medical status on the system.

  13. Can anyone please share the information of medical process for pragnant ladies as they can’t go through x ray.
    Thanks

      1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Nandha, Just inform the Medical Commission staff. They will not do the x-ray. You may be required to do the x-ray after delivery.
