Indian community event shows solidarity with Qatar

Members of the Indian community expressed solidarity with Qatar and its leadership through an ‘India-Qatar fusion show’ that was held in Doha recently.

The event, ‘Qatar – Our Second Home – A celebration of Solidarity’, took place at Qatar National Theatre and was opened by HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanim al-Ali.

“This event and the support that the Indian community has been providing to this country is a demonstration that the relation between India and Qatar is not just that of trade but of honour, dignity and love,” al-Ali said in his opening speech.

The minister also expressed the government’s gratitude for the event and appreciated the participating artistes for their dedication and hard work.

The event, organised by Bridge Qatar in association with Qatar National Theatre, lasted more than two a and half hours and featured cultural performances by more than 120 Indian artistes.

The programme started with a drawing of the ‘Tamim Al Majd’ portrait by calligraphy artist Abdul Kareem. It was followed by an Indo-Arab dance.

A drama, ‘Clock Boy’, depicting the story of American teenager Ahmed Mohamed, was also staged on the occasion.

Artists presented a variety of dance recitals portraying traditional Indian and Qatari styles. Contemporary dance, Ardha dance, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Bharatnatyam, Mohiniyattam and dances from north India enthralled the audience.

Malayalam folk songs presented by Kanalkoottam were another attraction of the event, which also featured songs of famous Indian singer Mohamed Rafi, Sufi numbers and ghazals.

The event concluded with the artistes and organisers lining up behind a banner that read ‘Qatar – Our Second Home’.

Qatar National Theatre manager Salah al-Mulla and secretary Yousuf al-Harami graced the occasion. Bridge Qatar chairman Saleel Ibrahim chaired the event while public relations officer Muneer Jalaludheen welcomed the audience.

The event was attended by prominent personalities from the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar National Theatre and leaders of various Indian organisations in Qatar.
