An Indian couple has found unexpected fame on social media with their calligraphic artwork going viral after Qatar’s Asian Cup win against UAE.

The artwork by Sameeha Abdussamad and her husband Adhil Mubarak has been widely shared on social media by citizens and expatriates alike, including prominent personalities like HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President, and HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani.

Brought up in Doha, Sameeha, a freelance architect by profession and her engineer husband Adhil told The Peninsula that they made the design after Adhil commented that the letter ‘Th’ in Arabic text of Qatar looks like flexed biceps emoji.

“It was after Qatar thrashed Saudi Arabia at the Asian Cup 10 days back, that we both made this up and shared it on our business page on Instagram,” she added.

“We put up the image on our shop’s Instagram page immediately after the Saudi match and few of our friends shared it from there. Some of our customers are Qatari citizens and they probably saw it and liked it too. It was in the last two days that the image went viral,” says Sameeha.

“We are very humbled that this creation of ours has been taken up by the people of this great nation,” the couple wrote on their Instagram page.
