School Admissions in Qatar: ICC discusses community school, conducts online survey

Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) in Qatar is actively discussing the possibilities of opening a community school to resolve the admission woes of Indian parents in Qatar.

Securing admission to existing schools in Qatar has become a nearly impossible task for many parents as the number of seats is restricted. Even for new intakes to KG classes, most schools give priority to siblings of existing students.

Why it is difficult

As per SEC guidelines, most schools can accommodate only a maximum of 30 students per class and number of divisions are strictly controlled depending on the campus facilities.

What created a sudden shift in the balance was that a few years back, MES Indian School, which is the biggest Indian community school in Qatar had been asked to stop admission to KG classes as SEC felt the campus was overcrowded.

The growing number of families moving to Doha also added to the pressure on the existing schools.

Even though a number of new schools were supposed to open during 2015, none of them was able to complete the necessary official formalities for opening.

ICC considers community school

As a solution to this ongoing issue, Indian Cultural Centre, which is an apex body functioning under the Indian Embassy, is actively considering opening a new community school in Qatar.
To discuss further on this, ICC had also conducted open forum discussions with parents and media personnel during last few weeks.

They are also conducting a survey to identify children those who are not getting admissions in any Indian Schools in Qatar.

Online survey

To participate in the survey, parents have to send an email to [email protected] with the following details:

  1. Name of Student
  2. Name of Parent
  3. Admission requested for the Academic Year (Class/Standard)
  4. Curriculum Requested (CBSE / International / Other)
  5. Have you registered in any Indian Schools for admission in Qatar: If Yes, please provide the name of schools and registration number.
  6. Contact Number
  7. Email ID
  8. QID / RP number of Parents and Student
