Indian expats from Doha dies in Muscat accident


A Doha resident Hafza (45), and her relative Salim (37) were killed while five people were injured in a road accident late in the evening in Muscat yesterday.

There were 11 passengers, including women and children, in the ill-fated vehicle.

The victims were returning to Muscat after a pleasure trip to Jabal Akdhar mountains. According to the sources, the vehicle lost control while driving down the mountain and crashed. The injured, one of which is critical, are being treated in Nizwa hospital.

All the passengers were from the south Indian state of Kerala. The four wheel-drive vehicle has capacity for seven persons but the authorities allowed eleven passengers as some children were among the travellers.

Sajid, one of the injured persons, from Perambra in  Kozhikode district, runs a supermarket in Ibra in Muscat. His family and some of his guests from Doha were travelling in the vehicle.

Children miraculously escaped the accident and got minor injuries. Hafza and her husband Abdulla, who works with Kahramaa, had gone to Muscat to celebrate Eid with her daughter Febina who was married to Sajid. Salim is uncle of Sajid, according to sources.
