Indian woman wins USD 1 million at Dubai Duty Free draw after leaving Dubai

The draw for Dubai Duty Free’s 225th Millennium Millionaire took place on 4th October 2016 where Ms. S.J. Fernandes, an Indian national won a staggering prize of a lifetime, US$ 1 million (Rs 6.7 crore).

The 50-year old accountant has lived in the UAE for over 16 years had moved back to India with her husband two years ago.

She won the prize money for ticket no. 3161, which she purchased online on 24th August 2016.
Extremely delighted and thankful of her win, Ms. Fernandes is looking forward to visiting Dubai Duty Free to collect her ceremonial cheque, DDF website said.

The Millennium Millionaire Promotion was first introduced in 1999 and in its 17-year lifespan has resulted in 226 US$ 1 million cheques being presented to winners from all around the globe.
Interestingly, around half of the total Millionaire winners are Indian nationals.

The winning ticket numbers were drawn by Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice President for Corporate Services, Salah Tahlak, Executive Vice President for Commercial, Nic Bruwer, Senior Vice President for Retail Sales and Merchandising, Michael Schmidt, Manager for Recruitment and Employee Development, Rachel Green and Zayed Al Shebli, Manager-Corporate Security.
