Mathrubhumi, one of the leading and oldest newspapers of Kerala, has launched its 16th edition in Qatar, starting from today – April 20, for the NRI Malayalees.
Mathrubhumi is the sixth Malayalam daily to be published in Qatar. With the launch of the Doha edition of Malayala Manorama in 2014, Malayalam dailies had outnumbered the local Arabic and English dailies in Qatar.
The other dailies that already have Doha editions are Madhyamam, Chandrika, Thejas and Varthamanam.
Mathrubhumi, which was born as part of the Indian freedom struggle, will be printing its Qatar edition in Doha, enabling early distribution along with local dailies.
After Mathrubhumi’s launch in Dubai, this is the 2nd edition from the Gulf countries. The daily, which was first printed in Kozhikode on March 17, 1923, has editions from 10 centres in Kerala and 4 metro cities across India. As part of the Navathi celebrations, Mathrubhumi launched its 15th edition in Dubai on March 18, 2013.
The new edition will offer NRI Malayalees a chance to know about the happenings in their homeland and to go along with the development.
