Music lovers in Doha were treated to a melodious night of Ghazal last Friday, as popular Ghazal and playback singer Manjari performed live, for more than three hours, at Regency Hall.
The event titled Khayal E Ghazal was organised by Qbiz Events in association with Thirumuttom and with the support of Lavish Group.
After organising several Ghazal concerts with renowned artists like Umbayi, Gayathri and Shahbaz Aman in the past, this was the second consecutive year that Qbiz Events bought Manjari to perform in Doha.
With her soulful voice and popular Ghazals, Manjari was able to take the audience for a walk through the contours and ages of this royal music form.
The audience traversed on a nostalgic journey, when she sang songs like ‘Hum to hain pardes mein, desh mein nikla hoga chand’.
The talented singer was also able to keep the audience engaged by sprinkling light humour and few peppy numbers in between the ghazals.
Her multilingual capabilities ensured that language was no barrier for the varied audience.
Manjari’s soulful rendition of popular tracks such as “Dam dam Mast Kalandar” and “Ye daulat bhi le lo” were complemented by the orchestra which featured several illustrious Indian artists, including Deepak Marathe, Kailash Pattara, Jayaraj, Rohan Krishnan Ratan and Arshad Khan.
The accompanying artists were quick to strike chords and amuse the the audience through their mastery of respective instruments.
Even after three hours in to the show, the audience kept on requesting for more songs and the humble singer was glad to oblige.
The event was also attended by Doha’s prominent business, socio-cultural and community leaders among others.
The event also featured a stellar Sufi Dance performance by the Bharati Dance Company and the audience was encouraged to cheer on the performers by popular anchor Manju Manoj.
Tickets to the event had been sold at various select venues in Doha, as well as online via www.ticketfun.com and classical music enthusiasts, who thronged the venue from all corners of Qatar, bore witness to a magical occasion filled with nostalgic Ghazal songs.
“The turnout here was amazing”, said Ms. Manjari, after the event. “It feels fantastic to know that Ghazal enjoys so many patrons in Qatar, I look forward to returning soon”, she added.
Earlier that evening, the event had been formally inaugurated by Sri Zainudheen Vanneri, the Chief Patron of Thirumuttam, Mr. Shani, MD of Lavish Group, Mr Shamsudheen, MD of Valmax Group, Mr. Gafoor of Rotana Hotels, Mr. Mathew of Wings Fresh Food, Mr. James Jhone, Acting GM of Gulf Times and Mr. Rajan, MD of Horizon Group, Mr. Sali BDM Intex mobile also graced the occasion with their presence.
