Qatar Airways, IndiGo sign codeshare agreement

Qatar Airways today announced a codeshare agreement with India’s IndiGo, as the Gulf carrier taps into the booming domestic market and the low-cost airline boosts its foreign ambitions.

As part of the agreement, Qatar Airways will place its code on IndiGo flights between Doha-Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Sales will start from today with the first codeshare flights to operate on December 18th.

About the agreement Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said, “we are extremely proud to secure this strategic partnership with IndiGo, the largest airline in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.”

He added, “Our goal is to work in partnership with the Indian authorities to offer more flights, more frequencies and more routes. Such partnership is the key to future growth and prosperity. Together, we can achieve greater things than we might individually.”

Qatar Airways currently operates 102 weekly flights between Doha and 13 destinations in India, including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Mumbai, Nagpur and Thiruvananthapuram.

IndiGo chief executive Ronojoy Dutta said the strategic announcement with Qatar Airways will not only strengthen the company’s international operations but boost economic growth in India by bringing in more traffic for trade and tourism through seamless mobility.

These are exciting times for the aviation industry and it is our commitment to remain focused in building one of the best air transportation system in the world,” Dutta said.

Indigo currently operates over 1,500 flights daily, covering 60 destinations within India and 23 airports overseas with its fleet of 247 aircraft. The airline plans to add more international destinations to its schedule which include China, Vietnam, Myanmar and Saudi Arabia.

    It is good decision we are expecting for Jaipur to Doha direct flight kindly think about it and try to start direct flight from Doha- Jaipur,
    It will help to Rajasthan people those are in gulf specially Doha and Kuwait.
