Popular playback singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan mesmerised the Doha audience with his scintillating performance at the Asian Town amphitheatre on Friday.
The singer’s maiden concert in Qatar, organised by Apex Events, was attended by thousands of music lovers, who braved the chilling weather to enjoy the music.
The show began with a number of warm-up performances which included instrumental music by a group of talented youngsters and cinematic dances by Bharati Dance Company.
The crowd greeted with cheers and whistles when Rahat Ali Khan, the man himself arrived to the stage.
Wearing a traditional blue outfit, the maestro sat playing his Harmonium and set the mood by performing a mix of Qawwalis and his Bollywood songs, as his voice exuded power and passion, capturing the imagination of the audience.
The audience was instantly enchanted with his voice as he sang his hit songs like ‘Tu Na Jaane Aas Paas Hai Khuda’ and ‘Dil Toh Bachha Hai Ji’.
The singer was accompanied by his son Shazmaan Khan and a group of amazing musicians, many of whom were members of Ustad Nussrat Fateh Ali Khan’s team.
He also performed other Bollywood hits like ‘Dagabaaz Re’, ‘Tere Mast Mast Do Nain’, ‘Teri Ore’ and also his mentor Ustad Nussrat Fateh Ali Khan’s popular songs.
Born in Faisalabad, Pakistan in 1973, Rahat is nephew of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and son of Ustad Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan and grandson of legendary qawwali singer Fateh Ali Khan.
Rahat’s formal training with his uncle began at the age of seven and he performed for the first time at the age of nine on the occasion of the death anniversary of his grandfather. Nusrat Khan was one of the great artists of Sufi music and an ambassador of peace. At the age of 15, Rahat was became an integral part of Nusrat Khan’s qawwali team.
Six weeks after Nusrat Khan’s death, the family accorded the leadership flag to Rahat. Rahat, who took over Nusrat’s legacy, is carrying forward the”spiritual message to the world.
