As schools reopen, heavy traffic hits Doha

Doha’s morning traffic slowed to a crawl on most of the roads as classes resumed at various schools across the country.

Long queues were seen around Abu Hamour area, where most schools are located, with some commuters at a standstill.

To add to the woes, a traffic signal at Mansoura Street was not working properly as reported by a commuter.

Earlier, officials had advised motorists to avoid roads that they expect to be congested so as to make the commute smoother for everyone.

The traffic department has repeatedly advised motorists to start as early as possible and send their children by school buses instead of their own vehicles.

However, many parents still prefer to take their children to school in their own vehicles, as the school buses often start too early and also bring students back home late. `
