Kindergarten shut down and fined over violations

A Doha Misdemeanour Court has ordered the closure of a nursery for three months for conducting activities that violated provisions of its commercial licence, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported. The court also ordered the nursery to pay a fine of QR 20,000 for the violations. Earlier, inspectors from the competent authority had found that the nursery, housed in a villa complex, often hosted commercial exhibitions. Some parts of the building were rented out to exhibitors to display their products, it was found. The nursery also collected entry fees from people who attended the exhibitions. Though the inspectors warned the nursery management to stop such practices, the latter continued to host exhibitions on its premises. The case was eventually handed over to the Public Prosecution, which investigated the matter and referred it to the court. A number of new schools to open in 2015-16

Following several complaints about shortage of seats in Qatar’s private schools, a number of new schools are expected to open in the next academic year, Peninsula has reported. An Arabic daily spoke to Mr. Hamad Al Ghali, Director of the Private Schools Office at Supreme Education Council, on this issue and below is the summary of his comments: SEC has received 96 applications for opening private schools during the 2015-2016. A final decision on the applications will be announced in June. Schools that have got initial approval have been given time until May-June to meet the licensing requirements so that they can start functioning when the next academic year begins. Last year, the SEC opened 35 private schools, including international schools, after receiving 98 applications for the 2014-2015 academic year.
