Traveling to India is on many people’s bucket list. And rightfully so. India is a gorgeous country where many travelers go to seek spirituality.
The many temples and the rituals make India one of the most visited countries in Asia. And let’s not forget about one of the world’s largest love token, the Taj Mahal. But did you know that India issues electronic visas for all those who are eligible? Not just for tourism, but for business and medical purposes too.
The electronic visa has been around for quite some time now, and India adopted the system back in 2014. In the beginning, only the citizens of about 40 countries could apply online for an India visa, but now, that number went up to 160. So it is most likely that you qualify for an India e-visa.
Before we get into it, you should know that the electronic visa for India has three subcategories: for tourism purposes, for business, and for medical purposes. You need to establish right from the start which one you apply for. After all, the requirements are not the same for all of them. Neither are the fees.
How to apply online for an India visa
The first thing you need to do when you choose to apply online for an India visa is to check your eligibility. If you happen to be eligible, then you must check if you have everything you need to get the application process started. Fortunately, the requirements are easy to meet. At the same time, keep in mind that the visa type determines what you need.
The universal requirement refers to a passport. All applicants must have one. But it is not enough to hold a passport. It also has to be valid and keep that status for at least another 6 months from your date of arrival in India. Failure to comply leads to a denied visa application.
When you apply for an India Medical visa, you need to have a letter from the hospital you are going to. The document must include the letterhead of the hospital to be considered valid. If you travel to India for business, all you need to prove that is a copy of your business card in PDF format.
Other requirements include a valid e-mail address to which your electronic visa will be sent, as well as a means of payment that allows you to pay online. Generally, people use credit or debit cards. Some visa services go a bit further and accept PayPal and other payment services like that.
After you make sure that you have everything necessary, all that is left for you to do is to fill in an online application form. One of the best things about an online application process is that the form is short and swift. It does not resemble a government form at all. Surely, you can appreciate that.
As soon as your request is processed, the India visa arrives via e-mail in PDF format, and you have to print it out even if it is linked to your passport electronically. The best thing you could do is to print multiple copies so that you have a spare. You never know when you may lose your visa. Or it can be stolen.
The validity of the India visa varies depending on the visa type. The India e-Tourist visa is valid for one year since the date of issue, it grants multiple entries, and it allows its holder to stay in India for a period of 90 or 180 days in a year, depending on the nationality.
The India e-Business visa is valid for just as much, it grants 2 entries, and your stay in India is up to 180 days. And finally, the India e-Medical visa is valid only for 60 days after arrival, and it covers three entries.
The bottom line is that the electronic visa system works excellent when it comes to getting a visa for India. No matter what the reasons for your trip are, it is good to know that you have the option of avoiding an embassy before travelling to India. As far as comfort is concerned, nothing beats the online application process.
