Ras Al Khaimah Police have found the dead bodies of an Emirati mother, her 11-year old daughter and two sons aged 3 and 6, after the vehicle in which the family was travelling was swept away by floodwater yesterday.
The mother and the daughter’s bodies were recovered yesterday, while the bodies of the boys were found today after night long search.
The husband, who was rescued by witnesses, is the sole survivor in the tragedy that has hit the Emirati family. He has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
According to officials, the husband was driving on a sandy stretch and tried to cross the 500-metre valley but the rainwater swept their vehicle.
Ras Al Khaimah Police operation room received a call on Wednesday evening about the accident in the Al Qur valley in Al Munyai area.
Brig. Ghanem Ahmad Ghanem, director of central operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said that residents of the area pulled out the man while his wife and three children – two boys and a daughter – were swept into the wadi by the surging waters.
Brigadier Ghanem said that RAK Police has deployed more patrols to control traffic at the areas hit by the seasonal showers, and urged drivers to take precautions.
“The valleys are filled with rainwater. People should avoid the valleys and slippery roads, and contact the central operations room in case of emergency,” he said.
