For the fifth year in a row, retail magnate Yusuffali MA has maintained his place at the top of the Indian Power List, which has been published by Arabian Business today.

The Keralite businessman runs the Lulu Group International, one of the UAE’s largest private companies. The firm owns many brands, including the Lulu chain of hypermarkets, and has an annual turnover of $4.5 billion.

Rising to second place this year is Dr. Ravi Pillai, the chairman of the RP Group. The company is the largest employer of Indian expatriates in the GCC, with around 80,000 employees in total. Dr. Pillai is currently focusing on expanding into the Dubai property, hospitality and education sectors.

In third place is IFFCO Group founder Feroz Allana, while top lawyer Ashish Mehta and NMC Group chairman BR Shetty round out the top five.

The highest new entry is Sanjeev Chadha, the chief executive of PepsiCo Asia, Middle East and Africa, while the top woman is once again Dr Zulekha Daud, the founder of the Zulekha Healthcare Group.

Altogether, 92 of the entries on the list are based in the UAE (with the majority of those in Dubai) reflecting not only the strength of the economy but the ease with which Indian entrepreneurs have set up businesses in the country.
